Jarreth Engelkamp

Born in Groningen, The Netherlands

Hello my name Jarreth Engelkamp, I am a photographer and have a huge interest in both the enormous fashion industry and the toy industry. These two interests came in their own manner and timing, whilst I gained my interest of fashion through my brother and my love for portraitures. The insterest of toys and photographing toys came more as collage of different events and turns in my life.

My first year of college education was Level 2 Art & Design, the 1 year course I took helped me undestand that I still had a deep connection with toys, collectibles and the animation aspect of toys, which slowly and gradually changed into more of a hobby rather than liking/ interested in collectibles. Even though that my first course helped with this slow progression, the videos and images I looked at over the 1 year span helped as well. These images and videos would differ from; animations to instagram posts to YouTube videos and more.

First image that reunited my interests for Lego/Toys

At the end of my first year in college I changed my complete view on what I wanted to do firstly which was architecture, this insparation came from video games such as; Minecraft, but also from my GCSE Graphics course where we had to create house layouts as our final project. However once it was when my brother had a competition for bodypower near Birghmingham this is where he me asked for several images so he is able to use it for social media apps. Which made my family realise that I had an eye for photos/photgraphy yet it did not convince me just yet. After this we went back to The Netherlands which is where I had more experience in photography by helping my brother with social media images for his fashion blogs and fitness blogs. at this point I decided that I should follow what I enjoyed the most and was also skilled in.

With all of this I also have a huge interest in Larp photography (live action role play), this is due to one of my hobbies being cosplaying, which also links to my other interest; history. These two link to me being interested in Larp photography because the insterst I have for history and enjoyment in cosplaying, this interest in cosplaying and the photographing such people came from a convention called; Comic Con (this is where you can find people that enjoy cosplaying but also enjoy "geek" culture and everything around it). Which lead to my final project including both hobbies that created a distinction as my final grade for my 1st year in Level 3 Photography.

Although I have many interests inside these hobbies of mine and try to include them in a certain aspect of my images. I have also taken part in competitions where I took a leap out of my comfort zone. This competition was for the KFE (Kent Further Education Live 2019) inside Canterbury. I was set to create a blog for tourists to show all the best aspects of Canterbury.
